We knew the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse would be a landmark moment in pop culture. It would be the first time in over 25 years this solar event would take place in the Continental United States - and the first one in the era of smartphones and social media, making it likely the most photographed moment in human history.

But with so many brands likely to try to capitalize on this event, we knew we had to go big to stand out. That’s why we brought in Bonnie Tyler to perform her iconic 80’s ballad “Total Eclipse of the Heart” during the Total Eclipse, and we had her do it on a Royal Caribbean cruise.

With every media outlet on the planet ready to cover the Total Eclipse, adding Bonnie into the mix made sure they had to talk about Royal Caribbean as well - leading to over 6.5 billion media impressions as Bonnie’s performance eclipsed the eclipse itself!
